What is the Rwanda tourist visa?

The tourist visa for Rwanda is the official government authorization that allows foreign citizens to travel to this African country for a specific period of time.

There are multiple kinds of visas available serving different travel purposes.

Although there are a few visa-exempt nationalities, most foreign citizens will need to get the proper travel authorization to be allowed entry into the country.

You can check here the visa-exempt nationalities.

Where can I get it?

Those who need to apply for a tourist visa can do so in three different ways: online, in person at an Embassy or Consulate, or on arrival.

The best way to apply, if your nationality is eligible, is online: it’s the fastest and easiest application method. Plus, applying through our website will grant you the opportunity to apply in your own language and in just a few minutes, with the dedicated assistance of our team of professionals.

Before starting the process, go over our step-by-step guide on how to apply for a Rwanda visa.

Can I get the visa on arrival?

Yes, the visa on arrival has been available for all travelers wishing to explore Rwanda since 2018.

Although it might seem like a more comfortable choice, it actually isn’t. Applying on arrival exposes you to long waiting times at the airport, and the uncertainty of not knowing if you will be able to enter the country or not.

Even though having a pre-approved visa doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be able to clear customs without issues, it dramatically increases your chances. If your visa on arrival application is rejected, you will lose any reservations you have made (accommodation, tours, and even the return flight).

That’s why, as long as your nationality is eligible, the best thing to do is to apply online. And remember: you will need to learn about the Rwanda visa requirements before applying.
